Good for: You get a described box, published policies, real tracking and someone to talk to if something goes wrong.
Watch out: Read the condition and the guarantees before you buy — a good seller states both up front.
- Big marketplaces
Good for: Buyer protection and easy checkout.
Watch out: Listings are often resellers repacking someone else's box, with wildly inflated 'retail value' claims.
- Auction sites and unclaimed-freight auctions
Good for: Prices can be very low if you know what you're looking at.
Watch out: Usually sold as-is with no description, no returns, and often local pickup only.
- Pallets and truckloads
Good for: The cheapest cost per item by far, if you're reselling.
Watch out: You need space, a way to unload it, and patience for sorting. Not a casual purchase.
- Social media sellers and live sales
Good for: Fun, and some are excellent.
Watch out: No order history, no policies and payment by transfer app means no recourse. Check for a real storefront.
A six-question check before you pay
- Does the listing state the condition of the merchandise?
- Are shipping, return and claims policies published on the site?
- Is there a real contact method and a real business location?
- Do you get an order number, a receipt and a tracking number?
- Does the seller say what is NOT guaranteed?
- Are the 'value' claims believable, or too good to be true?
If a seller can't answer most of those, keep your money. If they can, you're most likely dealing with a real liquidation business.
